Signed. Lightest shelf wear to the book; jacket has closed tears to the front panel and some rough wear down the edge of the rear flap. First printing / edition stated, no others noted. Signed by the author on the title page. Construction of the Champlain Canal began in 1817 by 1819 the canal was opened from Lake Champlain to Fort Edward on the Hudson River. During the next decades it would be connected to the Erie Canal opening traffic from the entire lake out to the Great Lakes. Canal boats represented the trucking industry of the pre-railroad age. This book attempts to tell the story of this vital link in the economy of the 19th century. Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours.
