Handsomely rebound in tan buckram with leather spine labels. First printing. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾". Hard Cover. An essential reference for the Civil War brigades and regiments from Vermont. George Grenville Benedict was a second lieutenant in the 12th Vermont an infantry regiment. At the Battle of Gettysburg as aid-de-camp to Gen. George J. Standard, commanding the 2nd Brigade of Vermont Volunteers, he was instrumental in directing the Vermont soldiers whose text book flanking manuveur was critical in breaking Pickett's Charge. In 1892 Benedict was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions on that day. From his citation: "Passed through a murderous fire of grape and canister in delivering orders and re-formed the crowded lines."
