Not the first edition. Light wear to the book, previous owner's emboss to front endpaper and half-title page; jacket is priced (3.00) creased and worn, split up rear spine edge otherwise intact. Although the American Guide Series continued for many years the WPA went out of existence in 1943. This printing was likely done either during or right after the war. The biggest change is that no map is called for. Other noteworthy changes are a different jacket spine, regular cloth binding (in a lighter shade of green) rather than the Dupont fabricoid, and the absence of the foreword, a letter from Harry Hopkins, the WPA administrator and close assistant to President Roosevelt. Not withstanding these changes and the undated title page (A Houghton Mifflin first must have a dated title page) the book is otherwise identical in all respects to the first printing. Most items ship with free delivery confirmation, electronic tracking and jacket protectors (generally over $10.00) if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.
