light wear to corners and tips of book; jacket shows wear to tips, corners, and edges, rubbed. The first edition of Hazel Wilson's second book for children in a priced jacket, quite scarce. The author, was born in Maine, the setting of the book. Her most famous books are the Herbert series, which was based upon the actions of her son and his friends. William Sharp, the illustrator, was a German born artist who escaped the Hitler regime for the United States. Sharp illustrated magazine stories by Ernest Hemingway and Thomas Mann. Sharp also did book illustrations for several leading publishers, with Dickens' Old Curiosity Shop for Heritage Press being his first assignment. He illustrated several books for limited editions, including The Diary of Samuel Pepys in 10 volumes. Sharp published several portfolios of etchings and lithographs about the legal and medical professions.8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾". Hard Cover.
