Ames, New York City, published by the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, although the editorial committee also includes members of the Delta Lambda Kappa fraternity which had just been founded at St. Lawrence. Among the DLK founders' was Addison Irving Bacheller, class of 1882, who would go on to a literary career as the novelist Irving Bacheller. Inscribed with the "Compliments of Addison I. Bacheller St. Lawrence Univ." in a bold hand on the first blank page. In Twentieth Century Authors, a Biographical Dictionary Bacheller recalls his days at St. Lawrence. " When they took me in at St. Lawrence University, I discovered that the Civil War was, in our countryside, being perpetuated by uncivil thinking. For that reason I founded the first chapter in the North of a firmly established Southern fraternity. It helped to wash the bloody shirt and was one of the best acts of my inglorious career."
