Volume 1 only of 3. Rebound in green and gilt modern cloth, light dampstaining along the bottom page edges through page 188 not affecting the text.The compiler and editor, the poet Ambrose Phillips, was a graduate of Cambrige University where he was a Fellow from 1699 to 1708. He was a member of the Joseph Addison / Richard Steele circle. As a poet his pastorals excited Alexander Pope's jealousy and he is bitterly attacked in Pope's satires. In addition to his literary endeavors Phillips was a member of the Irish Parliament for Armagh from 1727-1749. Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours.
