An account of the accidental creation of this inland California sea. Created by a dike breach when the Colorado River was at flood stage the area has since become a rather unpleasant place to live. The increasing salinity of the water has killed most of the fish and other aquatic life. The US Geological Survey describes is smell as "objectionable", "noxious", "unique", and "pervasive."
