No date but after 1875 when Eyre & Spottiswoode assumed the office of Queen's Printer. Shelf wear to tips, corners and edges, endpapers are spotted with offsetting, binding is tight. Previous owner's collection label, another owner's penciled name, a 1.5 x 1.5 in store label to the rear endpaper. 18mo, black and gilt pebbled leather, all edges gilt, four raised bands to spine which is titled in gilt Sunday Lessons on spine and front cover. Lessons-237 pages; New Testament-260 pages. From the collection of a collector of prayer books who wrote extensively on the field. The penciled name is that of Arthur William Goodwin Hudson who was a coadjutor bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. He studied at the London College of Divinity and was ordained in 1941. He began his career as a Curate at St Paul, Chatham after which he became Vicar of Good Easter. From 1945 to 1948 he was Headmaster at Windsor School, Santiago and then the incumbent at St James, Holloway until 1955. After a similar post at Woodford Wells he was consecrated to serve the Sydney diocese as coadjutor bishop on 25 March 1960. After four years based in Point Piper, New South Wales he returned to England and became Vicar of St Paul’s, Portman Square.
