True first edition of 1918, not a reprint. Spine darkened and title partially illegible, covers soiled, rubbed. Tpped in map torn. The map is a reproduction of "Vermont from the Latest Authorities." From J. Reid's, American Atlas. New York, 1796. Originally engraved by James Roberts. These papers cover the tenures of Ira Allen and James Whitelaw, the first surveyors-general of the State of Vermont. Ira Allen (1751-814) was one of the founders of Vermont, and a leader of the Green Mountain Boys. He was the brother of Ethan Allen. Many of the existing towns in the state were laid out from Allen and Whitelaw's surveys. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hard Cover.
